A downloadable game

VIC Advenger was made in one day for a GAME JAM to promote VIC 20 awareness.  It is a homage to Adventureland by Scott Adams and Space Invaders by Tomohiro Nishikado.  The game should be a very short experience (the ending can be reached in under 5 minutes).

Scott Adam's Adventure games were 16 kilobytes.  This experiment attempts to capture a narrative in the natural 3 kilobytes available on a stock computer.  Find out more about how to play the original games here.

The game is a KEYBOARD controlled text adventure made entirely in BASIC for the unexpanded VIC 20.  I recommend using a real Vic 20 or VICE emulator in NTSC mode (open the prg file in xvic.exe program).

Ah, I'm having trouble even getting started with this, unfortunately.  I've looked for download of the VICE emulator that you recommend, but I'm struggling to open any file I find. It's a shame because I do want to give every game submitted for the jam a fair shot. Do you have any recommendations on where I should go to get the VICE emulator that I'll need?

Thank you for asking.  There are several emulators; I believe VICE has a website (not sure if I am allowed to link).  Find xvice.exe in the VIC 20 folder?  Open xvice.exe then drag the prg file into xvice window.  Everything should autostart. Please let me know if I can help.

I have added a direct link to a browser-playable version of the game.
